About — Drew Ray
I’m a multidisciplinary artist, author, and illustrator based in Pennsylvania. I work primarily in charcoal, chalk pastels, oil paint, and acrylic paint. I write poetry and fiction alongside my visual art practice; I also do illustrations for my written work. My practice centers on narrative driven imagery that explores myth, psychology, and liminal spaces. Moments of transition, fracture, and quiet tension that exist between certainty and collapse.
Much of my work exists within ongoing bodies of work and long form projects, where individual pieces function as fragments of a larger world rather than isolated images. These works often draw from speculative landscapes, symbolic figures, and internal mythologies, balancing atmospheric storytelling with traditional draftsmanship.
Alongside my visual practice, I develop written and poetic narratives that inform and extend the work, allowing stories to unfold across mediums rather than resolve within a single image. My work sits between fine art and illustration, prioritizing emotional resonance, restraint, and ambiguity over literal explanation.
I live and work near Pittsburgh, PA.
